Firstly, congratulations on trying to get your 7th green flag. I guess you could first try to use a Carbon Calculator to find out how much greenhouse gas emissions the school is responsible for and then using different energy saving tips like turning off electronics and lights when not in use and car sharing if possible calculate how much emissions can be saved by reducing the energy consumption.

I work more on the research side rather than applications but here are a few ideas:
      – motion sensors for lights so they turn off automatically when the room is empty.
      – switch to energy efficient bulbs (probably done that already).
      – installation of solar panels. I’m sure your school has a huge roof and it might reduce the water heating bill. You could organize events to raise the money.
      – set up a bike scheme.
      – set up a re-usable cup/bottle scheme (maybe with the school emblem). Every student gets one and provide water fountains to refill.
      – the disappearance of insects, especially bees, is a worrying trend. Maybe your school has an area that they can let overgrow and develop into an insect sanctuary. This would benefit other wildlife as well.
